It was a business trip to Camanche on Thursday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams as they returned with a pair of River Valley Conference wins. The No. 8 Golden Hawk boys exploded for a lucky 13 runs in the ninth to score a 17-7 extra inning win. Mid-Prairie led 2-0 through four with single runs in the first and fourth innings. The Storm tied the game with two in the fifth, Mid-Prairie put up two in the seventh, only to be answered by Camanche in the bottom half to send the contest to extra frames before Mid-Prairie blasted the Storm’s pen in the ninth. Tyler Helmuth led the Golden Hawk lumber company going three for five with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored. Cain Brown and Collin Miller also had two hits and Brock Harland drove in three. Miller recorded the win in relief, working six innings out of the pen, giving up eight hits, four earned runs and striking out 10. Mid-Prairie is now 13-9 on the year.

The Golden Hawk girls got the job done in regulation, topping the Storm 7-2. The Hawks never trailed, taking a 4-0 lead on two runs in each of the second and third innings. They would extend the advantage to 6-1 after five. With the win, Mid-Prairie is 13-10 on the year as they get ready for tournament action at Linn-Mar and Alburnett.
