Bragging rights between area softball foes Winfield-Mt. Union and Columbus Community belongs to the Wolves in 2022 when they downed the Wildcats for the second time with Thursday’s bout being an 8-0 final. 

Two runs in the second and five in the third was all Makiah Lower needed in the circle with the sophomore twirling a complete game four hitter striking out 10 batters and walking four in the shutout. Her offense finished with 10 hits led by Keely Malone going 3-for-5 with one RBI and Aurey Meeker brought in three tallies while scoring three times. Columbus only had singles in the loss. Libby White threw seven innings surrendering one earned run on 10 hits. The defense struggled for eight errors in the game. 

WMU improves to 6-8 overall and in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Columbus is now 12-11 and 8-7 in the league.
