Sealing a conference crown in dramatic fashion? It sounds too good to be true, but that is how it all played out for the No. 11 Sigourney softball team on Monday with an 8-7 walk off victory over Belle Plaine to clinch the outright South Iowa Cedar League title.
The game was close throughout with the scored deadlocked at 7-7 after seven and it stayed true until the bottom of the ninth when a knock ended the night for another Savage walk off winner. The offense peppered 14 hits with Madi Richard going 3-for-4 and one RBI. Courtney Hemsley finished 2-for-3 and brought in three tallies. Josephine Moore threw all nine frames giving up three earned runs on six hits and striking out eight. Last night the Savages closed out the regular season with a 14-2 win over Melcher-Dallas. They scored twice in the first, eight times in the second, and four more in the third to make it a short evening. A total of 17 players saw time with 16 hits combined led by Macy Fisch going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Moore had another win in the circle tossing all three frames giving up one earned run on two hits. Sigourney wraps up the regular campaign 21-5 and won the SICL with a 14-1 league mark.
The Sigourney baseball team rolled Belle Plaine 13-4 and closed out SICL play in second with a 13-1 league mark. Cade Streigle went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Levi Crawford brought in three tallies including a home run. Streigle picked up the win on the hill tossing three innings of one run ball and surrendering seven hits. Last night was a methodical 9-1 win over the Saints of Melcher-Dallas. Sigourney improves to 17-4 overall.
