At the June 21st City Council meeting, a discussion was held about a possible endorsement for the T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program, which has a value of $50,000. The council unanimously approved its endorsement for the application for the grant.
If awarded, the grant will go to constructing a playground at the Washington Wellness Park, with most of the money going to making the park more friendly to those with special needs. Improvements would include making the park more handicap-friendly and providing sensory accessibility for those on the autism spectrum.
Riverside recently unveiled the newly updated special needs accessible Railroad Park as part of last week’s Trekfest celebrations. Improvements to the park include a new soft fall surface for the playground, expanded handicap accessibility, and a walking trail around the perimeter.
