It took over a week to finish, but the wait was worth the win for the Highland softball team when they upended Pekin 6-3 on Tuesday in a suspended game from June 21st.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference contest picked up in the third inning last night with the Huskies on top 3-1 and they never lost the lead adding two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to take control over the Panthers (7-14, 6-10). Highland had 14 hits with Lilly Barre and Sarah Burton each going 3-for-4 with two RBI. MyLei Smith brought in a tally and recorded a pair of knocks. Jessica Kraus was the winning pitcher twirling a complete game surrendering two earned runs on seven hits and striking out 12.
The Huskies conclude the regular season 19-8 and second in the north division with a 13-3 league mark. They open class 1A regional play tomorrow hosting Hillcrest Academy in a game that can be heard on AM 1380 FM 102.5 KCII.
