July is upon us and so is the postseason with area softball teams starting up their playoff run with the first round of class 1A regional play.

Outside of the all KCII area matchup in Riverside with Highland facing off against Hillcrest Academy, three other area teams will hit the diamond tonight in region 8. Keota will look for their first win when the 0-18 Eagles face off with Tri-County on the road. The Trojans are 13-13 and won a pair of regular season meetings by 15-0 and 11-0 scores. In the bottom half of the bracket, Winfield-Mt. Union will try to improve their 7-9 mark with a trip to West Point to battle Holy Trinity (9-10). The winner will get No. 11 Sigourney on Wednesday with the 21-5 Savages receiving a bye. Lone Tree is the final area team in action when they host New London. The Lions sit at 11-13 overall and the Tigers are 4-20. The Class 3A postseason will start on Wednesday with Washington (13-23) traveling to West Burlington (23-5), Columbus Community (12-12) at Central Lee (16-6), and Mid-Prairie (16-12) at Chariton (18-5).

All start times are set for 7 p.m.
