It was a season of growth for the Columbus Community softball program, but the 2022 journey came to a close on Wednesday by falling to Central Lee 14-4 on the road in a class 3A regional quarterfinal.

The Wildcat offense was productive at the plate finishing with 11 hits, but stranded several base runners and couldn’t manage the breakout inning. Lily Coil was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Sera Vela and Kennedy Woepking each had a pair of hits and one RBI. Woepking tossed 3 2/3 innings in the circle surrendering three earned runs on six hits.

Central Lee improves to 18-7 and they advance to tomorrow’s semifinal at West Burlington (24-7). Columbus bows out at 12-13, their most wins since 2014. They say goodbye to a pair of seniors in Libby White and Lilly Clark.
