A district championship is on the line tonight in Riverside when the Highland Huskies welcome the Lynnville-Sully Hawks. Highland enters the contest with a 22-3 overall record after a 2-0 second round victory over Hillcrest Academy Tuesday. For the season, Highland is hitting .350 as a team with four players above .400 led by Trevor McFarland at .481 with 37 hits and 26 RBI. Luke Miller has scored 29 runs. On the mound, Highland sports a 2.18 team ERA led by Chase Schultz with a 1.66 and 10-2 record in 59 innings. Ethan Paisley is 5-1 with a 2.13 ERA and Connor Grinstead, Peyton Yeggy and Logan Bonebrake are a combined 7-0.

Lynnville-Sully is 23-2 this year. They were unbeaten champions of the South Iowa Cedar League. The Hawks beat North Mahaska Tuesday 9-2 to advance. On the year they are hitting .343 as a team with three players over .400 led by Corder Noun Harder at .500 with 39 runs scored. Conner Maston has 44 RBI and 35 hits. On the mound, the Hawks have a 2.68ERA with Maston and Lucas Sieck a combined 16-0 with a 1.60 mark across 91 innings. This week, head coach Seth Milledge talked about managing his pitchers and having his staff ready for Saturday. “Chase (Schultz) was great tonight (Tuesday). Given the pitch count rules we were going to keep him under 90 tonight (Tuesday) and we did that. We’re going to have him available for Saturday as well as Ethan (Paisley), and Peyton (Yeggy). We’ve got our whole crew ready to go.”
