The Washington Public Library will host a classic cinema show next Monday, July 18th, at 6 pm. The film of choice will be the 1940 Romantic Comedy Shop Around the Corner, starring Margaret Sullivan and James Stewart. The film tells the story of two workers at a leather goods store in Budapest who start falling in love as anonymous correspondents through their letters. This film concept was revived in the 1998 Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film You’ve Got Mail.  

Library Director Cary Ann Siegfried says that this is a film that was very highly regarded. “I actually haven’t seen the movie, but our librarians and those who are interested in classic cinema really recommended it.”
