It was all about the offense on Saturday in Sigourney during a class 1A district championship baseball game and the host Savages didn’t have enough of it in a wild 20-9 loss to Moravia.
The bats were sizzling for the Mohawks early by building a 10-3 lead in the third, but the black and gold answered in the bottom half with six runs headlined by bases-loaded doubles from Cade Streigle and Bo Schmidt. The Moravia offense did not waver and responded with 10 straight runs while Wyatt Throckmorton dealed three scoreless frames on the mound to calm the Savage bats. The road squad ended with 17 hits led by a 4-for-6 with six RBI performance from Matthew Seals.
Moravia is now 21-6 and they advance to the substate final tonight against No. 3 New London. Sigourney concludes the season 19-6 and qualified for their second straight district title game. They bid farewell to an accomplished senior class of five including Schmidt, Streigle, Levi Crawford, Cade Molyneux, and Garisin Hynick.
