The Washington County Fair will open Sunday, July 17th, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The main grandstand at the fair will host various showcase events, including a sanctioned tractor-truck pull, rodeo, demolition derby, and motocross races. The first event hosted at the grandstand will be the garden tractor pull at 6 pm on Sunday. Contestants will bring their modified riding lawn mowers to see whose machine will reign supreme.
Tractor pulling is a sport where the winner is determined by the amount of weight pulled along a prescribed course. Most of the modifications to these tractors will focus on increasing the horsepower and torque, which means that the engine must be modified to generate as much power as possible.
Vice President of the Washington County Fair Board, Kurt Dallmeyer, gave KCII an insight on what to expect for the first showcase event for the fair. “The garden tractor pull has small tractors like people use to mow their yards except with a few modifications and tweaks. They’ll be moving down the track a lot faster than what a normal tractor would and are capable of putting on a show just like what the big tractors are able to do.”
No separate ticket purchase will be needed for this event, as a ticket for the fair will cover entry into all events and showcases. Season passes can also be purchased ahead of time or at the gate and will cover the entry for every day of the fair.
