In the spring of 2022, members of the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team were hard at work on the field and in the classroom. Seven players on this year’s edition of the team were named Academic All-State by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Four athletes were named first team. Esther Hughes was a first-team Academic All-State selection. The senior finished the year, eighth in Class 1A with 26 goals scored to go along with six assists and 86 shots on goal.
Senior Evelyn Gerber was a first-team Academic All-State pick. Gerber was one of the defensive captains of a Golden Hawk team that gave up just 29 goals during the season.
Senior Lilou Beachy was selected first-team Academic All-State. She was a member of the Golden Hawk defense that allowed fewer than two goals per match.
Junior Sophia Baker was a first-team Academic All-State pick. She finished the year with three goals and seven shots on goal.
Senior Julia Boller was a second-team Academic All-Stater. Boller had four goals and four assists in 2022 to go along with 16 shots on goal.
Two seniors were given honorable mention; defender Leah Bontrager and forward Kaitlin Martin. Mid-Prairie finished the year with a 9-6 overall record.
In order to be selected, athletes must have participated in more half than of their team’s varsity halves and achieved a GPA of greater than 3.50.
