The United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties is encouraging the community to participate in the Thanksgiving in July Community Wide Food Drive program. This is a program where individuals or businesses conduct their local food drive with the intention of restocking the local food pantries.
The food pantries will login donations through the remainder of July then tally how much food was donated
Vice President of Development and Marketing for the United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties Trisha Smith says summertime is a really difficult time for many people to find resources for their families, “Most of our children are out of the school environment and if families were receiving food support through the programs in their school systems for breakfast and lunch, those are no longer available for some families.”
Some of the basic needs to focus on are; canned food, canned meat, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, kid friendly snacks, peanut butter, baby food and formula. Hygiene products and detergent are also in need.
