William Blum†«ˆY†ª^‹¯e:Ԙ’oS

The late Bill Blum and his wife Mickey of Crawfordsville will be recognized as the newest members of the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame as the recipients for Washington County. The Blum’s got involved in 4-H after their daughters wanted to showcase rabbits at the fair. This family experience led to Bill Blum becoming the Washington County Fair rabbit superintendent.

Under his management as superintendent, rabbit project numbers grew, facilities were significantly upgraded, and he helped align the show with the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) standards. Blum passed away in 2016, and in 2017 his granddaughter took home top honors with the Overall Grand Champion rabbit at the Washington County fair.

Washington County 4-H & Youth Coordinator Amy Green talks about why it’s important to recognize these families. “This is so important to recognize families and volunteers because without them, we do not have a program like ours, and we want to celebrate them with everybody.”

Contact the Washington County Extension Office for more information about the induction ceremony. Download the free Washington County Fair Iowa app from the Apple or Android marketplace for a complete schedule of events at the fair.
