Sarah Grunewaldt, the Executive Director of Main Street Washington, will be stepping down after spending nearly a decade at the helm. During Grunewaldt’s tenure as Executive Director, more than $1.1 million was sourced for grant funding for building projects which turned into over $12.5 million of reinvestments into downtown Washington since 2014.

Grunewaldt also established the farmers market advisory board and was a part of the Small Business Development Center’s Advisory Board and the Statewide Advocacy Chair for the Main Street program. A committee has been established to help find the next Executive Director for the Washington Main Street program.

Grunewaldt talked to KCII about what kind of person would be successful in the position. “I think somebody that knows this community well has a lot of connections, enjoys fundraising, and can manage volunteers would be a great asset. In my opinion.”

Grunewaldt will remain in Iowa as she transfers to her new position as the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator for Johnson County Public Health, where she’s looking forward to helping implement new programs in Johnson County.
