Katie Leichty of Wayland was named Washington County Fair Queen last Sunday at the Washington Community Center. As queen, she will represent Washington County at the 2022 Iowa State Fair. The Washington County Queen contest was Leichty’s first, but she tells KCII she is ready to move on to the state competition.

“I’m super excited, to be honest, I’m not as nervous as I was for the Washington County Fair. I think there will be at least 100 girls on stage, and I’m just excited for the opportunity to meet so many new people, and it’s going to be a completely new experience for me.”

Iowa PBS will live stream the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest on August 13th, and highlights of the event will be shown on the 14th. More information about the Iowa State Fair can be found on its website.
