The Henry County Habitat for Humanity will soon begin their 29th home build. The tentative  build date is Saturday, August 6.

Operations Manager of Henry County Habitat for Humanity Lisa Diener shares the importance of volunteers during the building process, “There’s probably over 2000 hours of volunteer time per house. There’s certain things that we do pay for; that would be the excavation, plumbing, electrical and cement. The rest of it is all volunteer.”

Build time is seven months. Construction usually starts in May so that the new homeowners can be in their home by Christmas. This year, due to many days of rain, the project was delayed. All build days are on Saturday from 8a-12 p.m. and Henry County Habitat for Humanity provides lunch.

If you are 16-years-old or older you are eligible to volunteer just call or text 319-931-0656.

Diener stresses that if you are not skilled in construction, there are other ways to help out such as making meals, providing water or a snack or even stopping by the site and cheering the workers on. The build site is 502 S. Jefferson Street, Mt. Pleasant.
