The Sigourney baseball team enjoyed a prolific offensive year in 2022. The Savages ranked in the top 10 as a team in four different categories in Class 1A. Their team average of .374 placed them fifth in Iowa. Within that number, seven players hit .333 or better, and three above .400 including team leader Cade Molyneux at .541, fifth highest individual in 1A, with Bo Schmidt and Cade Streigle at .493 and .451 respectively.
Sigourney also belted 12 home runs as a team, sixth most in Class 1A. Molyneux finished the year with a team best four round trippers, seventh most in the state. Others with homers included three apiece for Levi Crawford and Schmidt, eighth most in Iowa and one each for Isaac Bruns and Streigle. Reflected by their long ball numbers is the Sigourney slugging percentage of .508, ninth in 1A, with four players over .600, led by Molyneux at .824.
The Savages turned the base paths into an expressway during rush hour this season, posting a team on base percentage of .508, seventh in 1A. The trio of Molyneux, Schmidt and Streigle all finished over .600 with Molyneux the leader at .646, eighth in 1A. Crawford and Garisin Hynick also checked in at .500 or better.
While the offense posted the highlights, Sigourney was also fundamentally sound on the defensive side of the ball, committing just 38 errors all season, seventh fewest in Class 1A. Schmidt, Molyneux, and Cole McKay were all credited with one or no errors defensively this year. Behind the plate, Sigourney threw out 14 would-be-basestealers, sixth most in 1A. Of those caught red handed by the Savage defense, 11 came on the arms of Hynick and Ty Shafranek. Sigourney ended the season at 19-6 overall.
