The Washington School Board, at their last two meetings, has reflected on the most recent school year and the successes they’ve had, and how they can build on those successes. They’ve focused on academic performance, teacher evaluation and retention, school spirit, and how to best help at-risk students. Washington Schools Superintendent Willie Stone talked to KCII about his goal for this upcoming school year.

“The main goal that I want to accomplish and that I’m going to be focusing on is to create a strategic plan for the next five years. This plan is going to lay out the steps for how we are going to do things with academics, the social and emotional health of our students, allocation of resources, and how we are going to engage our community and let them know the amazing things our schools are doing.”

Changes have been made for this upcoming school year to the truancy policy and other attendance guidelines. Stewart Elementary has also recently been approved for a $25,000 Fresh Fruits and vegetable grant from the state.
