The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team had a leader on the field and in the classroom this year in Will Cavanagh. The Golden Hawk senior, dubbed the “Captain of the Outfield” by head coach Kyle Mullet was named First Team Academic All-State this week by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Cavanagh hit .272 with 25 total hits, 19 runs scored and nine RBI. He was 10 of 10 in stolen base attempts and recorded 68 put outs in center while posting a .972 fielding percentage. He also threw eight innings on the mound with a 1.83 ERA. He was an honorable mention All-River Valley Conference outfield selection.

First Team Academic All-State means Cavanagh is one of the top 21 players in the state, as nominated by their coaches, who demonstrate outstanding academic, moral and athletic characteristics.

Cavanagh will continue his athletic and academic careers this fall at Central College as a member of the Dutch football team.
