Democratic Senate nominee Michael Franken held a rally a Chautauqua Park in Columbus Junction on Saturday. The former Navy Admiral, during his speech, talked about his previous experience in Washington representing the Navy under President Obama and about wanting to be a part of a “New America.” Franken will seek to unseat long-time Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley in the upcoming November 8th elections.

At the end of his speech, Franken noted that his political endeavor would not be long-term, as he doesn’t plan on running for more than two terms if elected. Franken talked with KCII about what he can bring to the table if elected to make the most of a limited time in office.

“I come to Washington pretty experienced; I’ve got seven or so years working on Capitol Hill in various capacities. I go to my job on day one ready to work, so I think I’ll be living at a high rate for those 12 years in the Senate, and I believe I will make all of them count.”

Election day will be November 8th; contact your local Auditors Office for more information about your local polling places.
