August has gotten off to a steamy start in the KCII listening area. The National Weather Service has issued a a heat advisory from 1p.m. To 8p.m. On Tuesday, August 2nd. Air temperatures are forecast to climb to 96 degrees with heat indices between 100 and 105 in Washington Tuesday. KCII Weatherology Meteorologist Derek Heit shares the dangers regarding these heat levels and precautions those who are susceptible to heat related illness should take. “A Heat Advisory means that the combination of high temperatures and high humidity will produce dangerous conditions, especially those who are sensitive to the heat including children and the elderly. In order to prevent heat sickness and heat stroke, take steps to keep cool. These include, drinking plenty of water, staying in the shade as much as possible, and if you must be outside, take occasional breaks in an air conditioned building to cool down. Watch out for the warning signs of heat stroke including dizziness, nausea, headache and disorientation.”

Temperatures in southeast Iowa are forecast to dip into the upper 80s Wednesday and Thursday with a return to the 90s over the weekend. Stay tuned to KCII for weather updates.
