The eighth best sports story for Washington in our top 10 countdown from the 2021-22 academic year takes us to the wrestling mat when one Demon grappler steamrolled through his freshman campaign.

Having already made noise in the AAU circuit over the years, high expectations surrounded Aaron Boone heading into his first varsity season and the freshman exceeded them by racking up a 44-2 record on the winter at 113 lbs. The top of the podium was something Boone got used to placing first at the Louisa-Muscatine, WACO, Highland, Fort Madison, Cascade, and Mount Vernon tournaments at 113 and 120 lbs. After a rebuilding 2020-21 season for Washington, Boone helped bring the program back up with the team finishing this past winter with a 13-8 dual record. The freshman just missed out on a state bid by placing second at sectionals and then third at districts. Other top performers for the orange and black last year included Chase Greiner with a 35-14 record at 170 lbs, Logan Frazer 16-4 at 195 lbs, Colley Billingsly 34-13 at 220 lbs, and Brayden Hartman 24-7 at 285 lbs.

Check back in tomorrow for number seven on our countdown.
