At the August 2nd Board of Supervisors Meeting, the Board heard quarterly and yearly reviews from the Washington County Ambulance Service. This version of the Ambulance service was established in July of 2020 after purchasing the equipment from the former owner, who had retired earlier that year. The quarterly report discussed issues such as the most frequent types of calls, improvements made to the station, and improvements to surrounding agencies like Ainsworth Fire & Rescue.
Another issue of conversation was Washington Ambulances’ response times to calls, which Director Jeremy Peck said were where they were supposed to be. “Response times are pretty much average; sometimes they’re a little bit higher or lower depending on the volume of calls which is pretty normal for what we are doing.”
The Washington Ambulance service covers the entirety of Washington County’s incorporated cities, with Washington making up the bulk of calls, with approximately half of the 3,281 calls serviced by Washington Ambulance this year. The average response time for the Washington Ambulance service was thirteen and a half minutes with the shortest response times being in Kalona at just over eight minutes, followed up closely by Washington at nine minutes, and the longest average response time being Crawfordsville at nineteen minutes.
