Due to expected temperatures, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the entire KCII listening area from noon to 9 p.m. Today. Temperatures are expected to rise to anywhere from 95 degrees to triple figures, with some areas reaching a high of 104 degrees. KCII Weatherology Meteorologist Derek Heit talks about the possible dangers when the temperature reaches these heat levels. “A Heat Advisory means that the combination of high temperatures and high humidity will produce dangerous conditions, especially those who are sensitive to the heat including children and the elderly. In order to prevent heat sickness and heat stroke, take steps to keep cool. These include drinking plenty of water, staying in the shade as much as possible, and taking occasional breaks in an air-conditioned building to cool down if you must be outside. Watch out for the warning signs of heat stroke, including dizziness, nausea, headache, and disorientation.”
Temperatures are expected to return to more moderate levels next week, with the warmest day next week set for Saturday, August 20th, with a high of 88 degrees. The National Weather Service reminds everyone not to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, to remain hydrated, and to take breaks when working outside. Stay tuned to KCII for weather updates.
