Dr. Edith Cabrera-Tello, a Fairfield resident with a doctorate in education, is one of six honorees in the 2022 Iowa Latino Hall of Fame. Dr. Cabrera-Tello is currently the English Language Learning Coordinator for Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa and served as a parent outreach coordinator for the Ottumwa Community School District.
She was born in Guatemala and came to the United States in 1989 for college, moving to Iowa in 2005 after graduating. She now works with Latino students to improve their English-speaking ability, encourages them to be creative, and teaches real-world skills to prepare them for the modern workforce.
The Iowa Latino Hall of Fame is held during National Latino & Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15th to October 15th, which also celebrates and honors the contributions made by Latinos and Hispanics in the United States. The ceremony will be Saturday, October 15th, at 5:30 pm at the Des Moines Art Center.
