The Bacon Buddies Pig Show is this Saturday, August 13th, at the Iowa State Fair and 48 young Iowans are going to “Find their fun’.
This is the third year of the show and is sponsored by the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) and is done in cooperation with Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA).
IPPA Communications Director Dal Grooms shares the importance and fun of this event, “It was developed as a way to help bring together Iowans with intellectual or developmental disabilities with 4-H and FFA youth. That was to give them an opportunity to take a pig and show it at the state fair. We think showing pigs at the state fair is kind of that truly Iowan experience and we wanted to make sure that was available to everybody.”
The Bacon Buddies show begins at 6:30 p.m. in the east ring of the Swine Barn on the Iowa State Fairgrounds and sixteen SOIA Buddies will show their pigs in groups of four, giving them an opportunity to interact with the judge and their animals. The FFA and 4-H mentors will be on hand to provide helpful suggestions as the Buddies walk their pigs around the ring.
