Mid-Prairie’s Karson Grout stood out as a special talent on the diamond this summer for the Golden Hawks. The sophomore was named Second Team All-State in Class 2A by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association this year. Grout, who was also an First Team All-District pick and an Elite All River Valley Conference selection, hit .372 this season on 29 hits with a team best 28 RBI, .533OBP and scored 23 times. He was the lone Golden Hawk with multiple home runs and also led the team with 16 walks. Along with his work at the plate and in the field, he finished 4-0 on the mound in nine appearances, throwing 26 innings with a 2.39 ERA. He was one of only three sophomores named First or Second Team All-State in 2A.
Mid-Prairie ended the season in the Class 2A state semifinals with a 19-11 overall record.
