The Washington Public Library, in partnership with Main Street Washington, will be hosting a Downtown Forum on Monday, August 22nd, from 2:00-4:00 pm to discuss downtown safety and homelessness in Washington. Speakers will detail the work being done, and the attendees are also encouraged to share their ideas to help the Washington community.
Police Chief Jim Lester spoke with KCII radio about what will be discussed during the forum. “A couple of months ago, at a meeting, some people voiced their concerns about their safety and the homeless population surrounding downtown. Since then, we’ve had a working group for the last three or four months, working with several outreach groups available to the homeless population. So this meeting will focus on the history of homelessness in Washington and allow downtown business owners and residents to voice their concerns.”
