It was all Southeast Iowa at Saturday’s 8-player football showcase in Martensdale with Winfield-Mt. Union rolling Audubon and WACO doing the same to Southeast Warren in a pair of top 10 showdowns. The No. 4 ranked Warriors picked up right where they left off last year with a 42-20 week zero triumph over the No. 7 Warhawks in the nightcap of the anticipated event.
WACO controlled this one from the onset and got on the board in the first when second year quarterback Isaac Oswald found Oleh Shtefanchuk from 32 yards out that reached pay dirt. A receiving and rushing score in the second quarter by all district running back Simeon Reichenbach opened up a 21-6 advantage heading into the break. The blue and white received separation out of half when Mason Miller hauled in a 46 yard pass that reached the end zone and a couple more Reichenbach touchdowns opened up a 42-14 tally that led to the three possession victory. Oswald was efficient completing eight of nine throws for 189 yards and three touchdowns to one interception. Miller had two receptions that totaled 56 yards and Reichenbach finished with 87 rushing yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns with one more receiving. WACO put up 317 total yards compared to Southeast Warren’s 261. Kohl Hildebrand recovered a fumble and Drew Diers was everywhere defensively with 12.5 tackles.
The Warriors start the season 1-0 and have their home opener Friday against Springville.
