The Washington public library will host a public storytelling event on Tuesday at 6:00 pm dedicated to experiences and stories from one-room schoolhouses. Library Director Cary Ann Siegfried says that the event is also open to those who may not have attended a one-room schoolhouse but have heard stories from their parents or grandparents. This event is just a small part of a larger effort to draw attention to the history of one-room schoolhouses.
Siegfried talked with KCII about what some volunteers from around the area have put up inside the library to honor these schoolhouses. “We have a great display right now in the foyer area in the library that was put together by some of our genealogy and local history volunteers. They have a ton of memorabilia from one-room schoolhouses in the area, so I’d really encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to stop by and see what’s there.”
No registration is required for the event; contact the Washington Public Library for more questions about the event.
