The Washington Police Department responded to a call for a possible domestic dispute after a neighbor heard someone yelling for help at the 1615 N 6th St apartment complex on August 19th. An intoxicated male was spotted leaving the apartment and was initially detained by the Washington Police Department for public intoxication before being connected with the incident at the apartment complex.

Twenty-eight-year-old Cody Jeremiah Johnson was arrested for public intoxication, harassment 1st degree, domestic abuse assault strangulation. In Iowa, a domestic abuse assault that impedes the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of another by applying pressure to the throat or neck of the other person or by obstructing the nose or mouth of the other person, and causing bodily injury, is a Class D felony.
