At the most recent Washington Community School Board meeting, the board laid out its goals for the upcoming year. The induvial members were given seven topics to assign a rank to, with one being the highest priority and seven being the lowest. According to the school board, the top three priorities for this year are academics, behavioral issues, and facilities.
Willie Stone, the Super Intendent of Washington Community Schools, talked with KCII about if he feels like these rankings accurately reflect what the three main issues for this year are. “These are some important issues to focus on. It is always important to focus on academics, and the behavioral issues can be traced back to students’ mental health, so those are some great areas to focus on. We’ll also be focusing on facilities this year with our bond issue coming up, and we’re already in the middle of a facility update.”
In an earlier article (hyperlink), Teresa Beenblossom, the principal of Washington High School, noted that a large portion of behavioral issues at the high school last year came from a small portion of first-year students.
