Mother Nature was not kind to the Lone Tree football team in last week’s opener against Midland, but the Lions hope for better luck Friday when they make a trip to face Central City.

The week zero matchup on Friday only lasted a quarter before lightning ended the scoreless affair with the game going down as a no contest. As the Lions now turn the page to the Wildcats in week one, Central City is coming off of a 3-6 campaign where they won their last three games. Their quarterback, running back, top receiver, and top four tacklers all return for 2022. Jayden Hanson completed 43% of his throws for 722 yards and 12 touchdowns and Aiden Klostermann reached pay dirt 16 times while rushing for 973 yards. The junior also led the defense with 44.5 tackles.

Lone Tree Head Coach Joe Donovan tells KCII Sports getting used to their offense is a focus this week. “They run a different style of offense with the 8-player version of the single wing. They have had a lot of success running the ball over the years and we have to shore some things up front to stop this experienced group.”

The matchup gets underway at 7 p.m. Friday in Central City.
