Republican Iowa Senator Charles Grassley is scheduled to debate former Navy Admiral Michael Franken on October 4th on KCCI-TV and its CBS affiliates and on October 6th on PBS. Franken and Grassley have spoken with KCII about these debates, with Franken mentioning that he wants to press Grassley on his support for Trump and his voting record during his tenure.
When he spoke to KCII, Grassley said he has no problem defending his support for Trump during his presidency. When asked about the FBI’s August 8th raid on Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence of former president Trump, Grassley said he wanted to wait until he made any judgment.
“We don’t know what they got, so it’s hard for me to make any judgment. However, I would like to call upon the FBI and the Department of Justice to make everything public, so we know what we’re talking about because this is the first time a former president’s house has been raided.”
Grassley also mentioned possible political bias within the FBI, mentioning the difference in how the agency handled situations involving Hilary Clinton and Hunter Biden. “There’s a double standard with how they’ve handled this case. Hilary Clinton’s emails were compromised, and they negotiated with her and didn’t invade her home. They also stopped an investigation on Hunter Biden that should’ve gone ahead and stated an investigation on Trump based on flimsy and fuzzy newspaper reporting.”
Grassley said that he believes the possible issues within the FBI exist at the top level and that local FBI officials in Iowa are not part of the problem. Election Day is November 8th, and Iowa voters are now eligible to apply for absentee ballots.
