Having already logged almost 500 miles roundtrip in the first two weeks, the No. 6 Winfield-Mt. Union football team has another long bus trip in store on Friday when they head to Marengo to face Iowa Valley.
The long hauls have not slowed down the road Wolves, as they sit at 2-0 and have put up 132 points with 966 yards of total offense. Cam Buffington has accounted for 578 of those yards and the junior has reached pay dirt 12 times already with nine rushing scores, one receiving, one pick-six, and one kick off return to the house. Abram Edwards has been a nice compliment with 132 yards on the ground and 67 receiving with four total touchdowns. The defense has allowed 44 points a game and they will have to improve against a Tiger team that is fresh off of a 74 point performance. Despite the video game like offensive numbers, Iowa Valley did fall to BGM 78-74 to drop to 1-1 on the campaign. Evan Kearney is the player to keep an eye on with the senior completing 24 of 39 passes with 423 yards and nine touchdowns to just two interceptions. The dual threat quarterback also leads the ground attack with 47 carries for 356 yards and four more scores. The defense has surrendered 55 points a night in a pair of games.
WMU hits the field Friday at 7 p.m. in Marengo.
