The Columbus Wildcats traveled to Riverside Friday and spoiled Highland’s senior night with a 55-0 shut out of the Huskies. The ‘Cats took control early, leading 28-0 after the first quarter and 48-0 at the half. Columbus added one more touchdown in the third to finish the scoring. Columbus rolled up 416 yards of total offense, all of it on the ground, averaging more than 17 yards per carry. Kaden Amigon went for 142 yards on just five carries with a pair of touchdowns. Triston Miller and Riley Kaalberg each rushed for a pair of scores while Jeff Hoback and Cole Storm both had touchdown runs. The Wildcats had four touchdown runs of 50 yards or longer as a team. Kaalberg led Columbus with eight tackles. Columbus forced three turnovers with Markell Zapiensz recovering a fumble and Triston Miller and Cael Phillips each picking off a pass. On the night the Huskies honored four seniors including Tyler Thompson, Ethan Paisley, Peyton Yeggy and Ethan Simpson.
The Wildcats are now 2-0 on the year and host Wapello Friday in their home opener. Highland is 0-2 and they host Wilton.
