Kalona’s 50th Annual Fall Festival will be held Friday and Saturday September 23rd-24th.
The Fall Festival originally started as a small fundraising event for the Mennonite Historical Society and the Kalona Historical Village. There have been several changes over the years but one constant is the apple fritters. They’ve been available since the beginning and the tradition continues this year.
Managing Director for the Kalona Historical Village Nancy Roth shares the goal of the festival, “But our goal every year is just to highlight our community with different demonstrations. The Mennonite Museum has been making their apple butter over the copper kettle for years, there again, tradition. We want to have something for every member of the family which we do hopefully highlight for everybody.”
Roth adds that another goal is to always try to have something new. New this year will be a fireworks display on Friday night to give an extra bit of celebration for the Festival’s 50th anniversary.
