Several KCII area cross country teams flocked to Sigourney Golf and Country Club on Tuesday and one Savage runner showed out for the home crowd. 

Ellie Yates had the best area finish placing second in the girls’ race clocking in at 22:23, only 13 seconds behind North Mahaska’s Aly Steil for the top spot. Sigourney did not have enough for a team score, but teammates Reanah Utterback (24:24) and Addison Yates (24:39) cracked the top 10 in the 36 runner field placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Columbus placed second out of three team scores with 35 points while Montezuma won with 35. Ariana Vergara nabbed fourth (24:00), Naveiah Garza was 11th (26:11), Averi Sipes 18th (27:36), Quinn Yotter 22nd (28:33), and Kimmy Gonzalez 23rd (28:53). WACO’s McKenzie Vradenburg finished the night in 12th (26:41) and Justine Lynn was 15th (27:25). Highland’s top runner was Halle Hazelett crossing the finish line in 20th (28:21).

On the boys’ side, Columbus had a silver showing with 48 points, WACO was fourth with 93, and Highland was fifth with 145. North Mahaska took the five team competition with 21 points. Damian Vergara had the third fastest time in the field in 18:32 and North Mahaska’s Lane Harmon won with 17:39. Other Wildcat runners included Tim Hills-Carrier eighth (19:25), Bryan Tlatenchi ninth (19:55), Cael Phillips 11th (20:02), and Oscar Alcala 29th (23:07). The Warriors were led by Keiran Luitjens in 13th (20:06) and Isaac Rich 16th (20:39). Highland’s Jackson Schneider led the Huskies placing 31st (23:24). Sigourney’s Troy Klett had a strong showing in sixth (18:56), Keota’s Owen Morris was 30th (23:10), and Lone Tree’s Jadin Grieser was 32nd (23:30).
