The Washington School Board, at their last meeting, reviewed the proposed plans for upgrades to Washington High School. These upgrades relate to a bond issue approved for the school district last year. Washington Community Schools superintendent Willie Stone spoke with KCII about this bond issue and when the district plans to get this project out for bidding.

“We have a bond issue that passed this last year, and we are planning on getting that project out to bid this November, and we’re going to start accepting bids in December. The first phase is scheduled for Spring of 2023 to Spring 2024. Phase two of the project will go out to bid in November of next year, with bids being accepted in December next year.”

Vitus Bering, the President of SVPA Architects, gave a presentation during the meeting and outlined some of the upgrades that could be coming to classrooms. “Most of the fine-tuning we have done for the high school has been on the second floor, and we were able to meet with the teachers that use this space and got some great feedback. One of the changes that came out of that was the family & consumer science room because there was a desire to have more of a commercial/culinary arts style set-up for the room instead of a residential set-up. We also wanted to create two distinct sides for the art room, one for 2-D paintings and drawings and the other side for 3-D projects like sculpting.”

The next Washington Community School Board meeting will be on Monday, September 14th at 7:00 pm, at the School District’s Central Office in Washington.
