It was all Winfield-Mt. Union on the volleyball court last night when the host Wolves downed Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe Columbus Community in straight sets to open conference play.

Fresh off of winning the English Valleys tournament over the weekend, the Wolves carried that momentum into Tuesday with a three set victory of 25-9, 25-6, and 25-17. Audrie Gipple led a balanced attack with seven kills while Melina Oepping and Bradie Buffington each had six. Keely Malone registered 17 assists and Keetyn Townsley managed six digs. The team served at a 93% clip and finished with 16 aces. The Wildcats were led by Aracely Garza with four kills, Sera Vela had eight assists, and Isabelle Lagunas recorded four digs.

WMU is now 8-4 and 1-0 in the league with a trip to Riverside looming tomorrow against Highland. Columbus is 1-7, 0-2 in conference play, and travel to the Williamsburg tournament on Saturday.
