The Highland Huskies football team is back in Riverside this week to take on the visiting Wilton Beavers. Highland enters play 0-2 on the season after shut out losses at the hands of No. 1 East Buchanan and Columbus in their first two weeks. So far, the Huskies are averaging 102 total yards per game, all on the ground, led by 14 carries and 82 yards for junior Luke Guseman. Quarterbacks Guseman and Sage Hartley-Norman have yet to complete a pass this season.

Wilton is 2-0 after opening the year with wins over Northeast Goose Lake 40-12 and Tipton 18-12. The Beavers are averaging 322 yards of offense per game with 238 of that coming on the ground each Friday. Sophomore quarterback Drew Keith is 24 of 38 through the air for 168 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. His favorite target is junior Landyn Putman with nine catches for 75 yards. On the ground, the Beaver attack is led by sophomore Owen Hassell’s 201 yards and four touchdowns on 37 carries. Senior Alex Kaufmann leads the Wilton defense with 10 tackles, four and a half for loss and three sacks. The Beavers have forced eight turnovers through the first two weeks, four fumbles and four interceptions. Wilton has won three of the last four meetings, but the Huskies took this contest a year ago 14-0.
