With every passing week the chatter is getting a little louder about the emerging Columbus Community football program and the noise is not getting any softer after Friday’s 39-19 home victory over Wapello (1-2).
The Wildcats found the end zone in the first and second quarters that helped build a slight 13-7 halftime advantage. Taking over the ground game is what the blue and white did in the third to extend the lead to 26-7 and that was all the cushion the defense needed. All 429 yards of offense came from running the rock with Kaden Amigon having 22 carries for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Triston Miller reached pay dirt three times with a kickoff return back to the house and two rushing scores. The senior had 12 touches for 125 yards and the team picked up 11.3 yards per rush. Miller recorded 8.5 tackles on the other side, Daniel Martinez had eight stops, and Jeff Hoback picked up an interception.
Head Coach Dave Lekwa tells KCII Sports his team had answers all night. “Every time we needed a play we did it. Whenever Wapello put together a drive or had the momentum on their side our offense responded to gain it right back. Just a really good job mentally from our boys all week long we had great practices and they were fired up for this one.”
The win snaps an eight game losing skid to the Indians and the Wildcats improve to 3-0 on the fall. They host Lisbon (1-2) Friday.
