The Hillcrest Academy Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is selling apple fritters once again this year at the 50th Annual Kalona Fall Festival Friday and Saturday September 23rd and 24th.
The highly sought after treats have been available at the annual event for most of its entire run. Director of Advancement for Hillcrest Academy Jeremy Ours shares, “Between last year’s festival and now, we’ve purchased a third fryer,so hopefully we can accommodate folks better, especially those folks that want six or eight bags in an order. Our fritters are three for three dollars in a bag. Oftentimes we’ll get folks that will come in, if they’ve waited in line for say 15 or 20 minutes, they get up to the counter and they order quite a few bags, which is great. Hopefully now with a third fryer we’ll be able to accommodate those folks a little better this year. We love having a line because that sort of shows folks walking around the festival that this booth is sort of a big deal and maybe I want to check out what they got.”
Ours adds thanks to the parents and volunteers of Hillcrest Academy who donate ingredients for the fritters along with Farmers Hen House, who donate the eggs, and Don and Tami Miller of Birch Creek Farms who donate the apples.
