The Winfield-Mount Union boys won a team championship at the Central Lee cross country meet held at Green Acres Golf Course in Donnellson Tuesday afternoon. WMU sophomore Kohlby Newsom won the boys’ individual title with a time of just over 18 minutes and 28 seconds, 12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Junior Wolves teammate Gabe Hemsworth was 66 seconds off Newsom’s pace and finished third, while freshman Bowen Thomson finished 10, and Nick Sparrow, Ty Scorpil, and Jacob Haines rounded out the last three spots in the top 15.
Junior Afton Wilkerson had the top time for the WMU girls, finishing 18th in almost 27 minutes and 54 seconds. Senior Emma Richardson also earned a top-25 finish after placing 23rd in 30 minutes and 38 seconds. Winfield-Mount Union will run again today at Fort Madison alongside Washington and Columbus.
