The No. 15 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team defended their home court with their brooms Thursday, sweeping the No. 12 in Class 2A Wilton Beavers in straight sets in Wellman. The Hawks took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-22 on “Dig Pink Cancer Awareness Night”. Sophomore Dakota Mitchell led the way for the Hawks with 23 digs, senior Landry Pacha had 19 assists and 10 kills. freshman Jovi Evans added 17 assists and nine kills. Senior Ella Groenewold finished with 11 kills and three blocks. After the match, Evans talked about what she and her teammates did well to earn the sweep. “It just felt awesome. I think the second set was the best that we have ever played. We really came together as a team. We were cheering and happy. (In the third set) we got into a little bit of a rotation where we struggled, but we came back and we brought the heat the last couple points. (On getting the final kill) It felt awesome.”
With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the River Valley with a trip to Durant on Tuesday.
