During the September 14th Washington Community School Board meeting, the board heard an appeal from a group of students to approve a powder puff football game for Wednesday, September 21st. Senior Body president Drew Horak led the congregation of students, who talked about their efforts to try and get the powder puff game reinstated.
“We’ve been trying to reinstate the powder puff game since last spring, and we’ve gotten over 200 signatures from students wanting the game to be reintroduced. It ultimately got shut down due to people showing up at practices with paintball guns and egging other teams’ houses, but we have come up with a way to safely reintroduce powder puff. One of the issues from before was people would practice at each other’s houses with no supervision, so we designated certain areas on school property to have these practices with supervision.”
The practices for the powder puff game will take place on September 18th and 19th from 7:00-8:00 pm, with Senior participants meeting on the soccer field south of the softball field, Juniors will meet in front of the high school, Sophomores will meet on the baseball field, and Freshmen students will meet on the grassy area north of the high school.
