At the September 14th Washington Community School Board meeting, the board unanimously approved the reinstallation of a powderpuff football game for the upcoming homecoming celebrations after hearing an appeal from a group of students. The game will be on Wednesday, September 21st, at 7:00 pm, with two semi-final games being played before the championship game. The games will be flag football and will consist of two twelve-minute halves with a running clock.

Willie Stone, the Superintendent of Washington Community Schools, spoke with KCII about how future planning for powderpuff games will be handled going forward. “We are going to require a continuous proof of a plan going forward. What I’ve found out from my experiences in education is that people usually care more about an event when they have skin in the game. So, If the senior class for next year wants to put on a game, we will make the same request that we made for this year.”

Practices will be from 7:00-8:00 pm on September 18th & 19th, with Senior participants meeting on the soccer field, Juniors will meet in front of the high school, Sophomores will meet on the baseball field, and Freshmen students will meet on the grassy area north of the high school.
