Three local schools are representing the KCII listening area in this week’s high school football polls from the Associated Press.
In 8-man football, the unbeaten WACO Warriors hold firm in the No. 2 spot in the poll. WACO is receiving a pair of first place votes and trails only Remsen Saint Mary’s for the top spot. The Warriors were a big winner over Iowa Valley on the road Friday 54-26. This week the 5-0 Warriors are back at Roth Field for Homecoming when they welcome the 3-2 New London Tigers to Wayland.
The Columbus Wildcats, arguably the surprise of southeast Iowa, are ranked No. 7 in Class A. The ‘Cats are making their first appearance in the poll in many seasons following an impressive pounding of perennial power Lisbon Friday in Junction 49-20 to stay perfect on the year. This week, the 4-0 Wildcats travel to Packwood to meet 2-2 Pekin.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are receiving votes in the Class 2A poll this week, two spots out of the top 10 rankings. Mid-Prairie was a big road winner Friday over winless Eddyville-Blakesburg 56-0. The Hawks are back in Wellman this week to meet 1-3 Central Lee.
