The “Columbus Crew” is growing. Columbus Community Wildcats football is on fire as they enter Week Five, unbeaten heading into a trip to Pekin tomorrow night. And the rest of the state might be starting to notice.

After a 49-20 win over Lisbon, Columbus received votes in the A state rankings this week. The Wildcats have rode the run game to 49.5 points per game. Junior Kaden Amigon continues to lead the pack with 631 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Senior Triston Miller continues to be a big-play threat, averaging 17 yards per rush on 31 carries and scoring eight TDs.

While sophomore Riley Kaalberg has made the most of his touches and scored on five of his six carries this season, it’s defense where he really makes his mark. Kaalberg’s 29 tackles are a team high, joined by Miller and junior Cole Storm as players with at least 20 stops. It’s resulted in a Wildcat defense that has given up just over 13 points a game.

The Cats will try to keep a Pekin Panthers offense right around their average of only 18 points per contest. Senior quarterback Luke Long leads Pekin in both rushing and passing, but he has less than 380 total yards combined. Columbus will look to pounce on Pekin for a second straight season starting at 7 tomorrow evening.
